The Amputees Federation of New Zealand aims to enhance the well-being of amputees by providing support and promoting their welfare. They achieve this  by offering peer support and encouragement to amputees during challenging times and providing them with information and advice to help them achieve their desired quality of life.

The federation has eight affiliated regional societies that work towards achieving the goals set by the federation. These goals include providing immediate support to new amputees and their families, ensuring ongoing support for all amputees, including education and advice on rehabilitation, social and physical networks, and ensuring that amputees receive the best artificial limbs and aids, along with adequate training on their usage. They also foster positive links and liaise with health professionals, government departments, service agencies, and key community groups to promote the welfare and well-being of amputees.
