Awareness is a network of people with their own experience of a mental health or addictions service.

Their mission is to ensure effective mental health services in Canterbury by supporting individuals to make a difference, and becoming a collective voice for change.

As consumers themselves they work to improve services for all and to ensure the recovery model is followed for all service users.

They provide:

  • Support for self-advocacy
  • Education
  • Comment on policy and practice in the mental health sector
  • Support to make a difference to individuals and tangata whaiora who have mental distress
  • Themes : Evening talks on subjects directly relevant to the experience of mental health and/or additions issues.

Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month from 12.30pm
