The Blind and Low-Vision Education Network NZ (BLENZ) are a nationwide network that provide educational services for children and young who are blind, deaf or have low vision.

BLENZ's Dunedin Visual Resource Centre provides specialist teaching support via a VRC to get a visual assessment of your child's vision and provide ongoing support if a loss of vision is detected, the assessment is conducted by a Resource Teacher Vision (RTV).

Services offered by RTV's may include:

  • Referral for DOM Specialist Services and working in partnership with the DOM and team.
  • Facilitation to and support of other Specialist Services the learner may benefit from.
  • Functional vision assessments.
  • Early intervention assessments.
  • Assessment and teaching programs in the Expanded Core Curriculum, e.g. Braille, social skills.
  • Facilitation and consultation with families and schools.
  • Professional development for teachers and support staff
  • Support and advocacy for parents and whanau
  • Support with assistive technology and the production and provision of resources.
