OUR STORY

Their Founder: Disability Care Partners was founded by Helen Lomas, who saw firsthand the toll people with high and complex needs and their whānau were facing when pushed into generic, one-size-fits-all support. She watched people live with the anxiety of support plans that didn't fit, support workers who came and went, and a system that too often let them down.’

Helen has personally worked through every part of it. Needs assessments, support planning, and getting services up and running. She designs support that holds up in the real world, not just on paper.

Helen knew it could be done differently. With years of hands-on experience, she understands what actually creates safety, consistency and good outcomes for this group. Her mission is simple: to end the cycle of generic disability support for people with high needs.

Their Values: They believe good support is never just about filling a roster. It's about trust, careful planning, and stability for the whole whānau.

They're guided by the Enabling Good Lives (EGL) principles, which put disabled people and their whānau genuinely in the lead of their own support. That commitment shapes everything they do.

They also believe that to look after people well, you have to look after the people doing the mahi. Their focus on staff wellbeing is a big part of why their team stays, and that stability flows straight through to the quality of care their clients feel every day.

For them, this work is about more than providing care. It's building something reliable, crafted with disabled people and their families to make sure disability support actually works in real life, not just in offices and on paper.

Their Journey So Far: What started as one person's determination to do disability support properly has grown into a team delivering joined-up, personalised support right across the Greater Wellington region: Wellington, Porirua and the Hutt Valley.

These days they walk alongside people and their families in many different ways. They provide hands-on support work, service navigation to help people find and connect with the right supports, a holiday program, and succession planning for when things change. It's all built around one long-term goal, the one that matters most to each person, so the whole team is pulling in the same direction.

They're proud that their people stay. That stability isn't an accident. It comes from genuinely investing in the team, and it's what lets them offer the consistency and trust that good support depends on.

Their Future: 

They're growing, but carefully. Alongside their support services, they've begun sharing what they've learned through practical workshops, helping provider teams put Enabling Good Lives into everyday practice, and helping workplaces and customer-facing teams become genuinely disability and neurodiversity confident.

The future can feel uncertain in disability support. Their job is to make it feel less so: to keep building a service that's reliable, deeply personal, and ready for whatever comes next, for more people and families across our region.
