Age Concern - Kāpiti

Age Concern is an organisation that provides social opportunities for elderly people, as well as visiting volunteers for lonely, or socially isolated.

They work all throughout Kāpiti from Paekakariki to Ōtaki.

Their services include -

Age Concern Visiting Services, a program that carefully matches fully vetted and trained volunteer companions with an elderly person based on personality, shared interests, cultural needs, and location, and are regularly reviewed.
Volunteers vary in gender and age, culture, and religion.

Companion Walking Service, a service for older people who would benefit from the security and companionship of a trained volunteer to assist them on walks. If you, or someone you know, would like to go for a walk in your community, to the park, local café or shops but find it difficult to go out on your own, we can help.

Steady As You Go (Exercise Class), a fun and social, strength and balance exercise programme for older adults. The exercises are gentle, progressively increase balance and muscle mass, and are specifically designed for older people. Classes consist of a combination of sitting, standing and walking exercises and last for about an hour. They are ideal for beginners, are ongoing, and you can see how much you have improved over your first 10 weeks.

Staying Safe Driving Refresher, a classroom-based that uses information and material provided by Waka Kotahi (New Zealand Transport Agency). These four-hour refresher courses involve a PowerPoint presentation and a lot of class interaction. Courses are a friendly and non-critical look at present driving regulations and helpful tips on better driving habits
