Samaritians runs a confidential, non-judgemental & non‑religious support, for those undergoing mental distress. Their phones are operated by volunteers from the community for the community.

Samaritans run a national hotline but do have regional bases in Wellington, Horowhenua/Levin, Manawatu/Palmerston North, and one regional centre covering the Bay of Plenty, Hawke's Bay, Gisborne and the Waikato.

What to expect when you call:

  • Your call will be handled with full confidentiality within our organisation.
  • Your right to anonymity will be fully respected. We won’t ask for any information that may identify you individually.
  • We won’t call the police or any other organisation (unless there is a threat to life/others) without your express consent.
  • If you call more than once we are unable to guarantee that you will speak to the same Samaritan.
  • Samaritans have the same right to anonymity and confidentiality and will not divulge any personal information.
  • Samaritans give callers respect and expect to be respected in return.
