Tumai Ora Whānau Services provide whānau ora services across East Otago and North Otago encompassing the Moeraki and Huirapa Rūnaka rohe, Waitati, Purakanui and the Waitaki Valley. Tumai Ora loosely translates as ‘taking a stand for the best’ and their aim is to foster accessibility to service delivery and help build greater relationships with health and social services in the Otago area.

The key objectives of the services of Tumai Ora is to ensure existing health professionals and providers are available and that Māori are assisted to better utilise the services that are available to them.

Tumai Ora Whānau Services are available to all of the community.

Development of whānau health plans are for specific conditions and age groups, and are targeted for improvement in the health of each whānau. There is a high priority on:

  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Hearing
  • Immunisation
  • Smoking
  • Injury
  • Drugs
  • Alcohol
